Allagash
2011
Oil on Panel
10.5" × 14.25"
In these works, areas of the female form are painted with a fleshy realism with titles that reference the landscape, like "Area 51," the nickname given to a top-secret military compound in the Nevada Desert, or "Allagash," a series of rivers and streams that ribbon through Northern Maine (my home state). Conflating these landscapes helps to layer the more common knowledge of these places with personal meanings, underscoring the importance of place to the human condition.
